The first green maritime corridor in the Transpacific.

25 September, 2023

Detailed plans for the first green shipping corridor were released by ports such as the Port of Los Angeles, the Port of Long Beach, the Port of Shanghai, along with the world’s major shipping companies.

Developed with the support of C40 Cities, it marks an important step towards the decarbonisation of the global supply chains that power our economies and the transition towards zero-carbon life cycle ships. This plan will help accelerate emissions reductions on one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.

The first green shipping corridor of its kind was launched in early 2022, immediately after the UN climate summit, where it was agreed to create zero-emission shipping routes to accelerate the decarbonization of the global maritime industry.

“This trans-Pacific green corridor will be a model for the global cooperation needed to accelerate change across the maritime industry,” said Gene Seroka, CEO of the Port of Los Angeles.

Shipping partners in the trans-Pacific green corridor include CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping Lines Co., Ltd., Maersk and ONE. Other major partners include Shanghai International Port (Group) Co., Ltd., China Classification Society and Asia Maritime Technology Cooperation Center.
