Shanghai port struggles to keep global trade moving as wave of COVID sweeps through China

26 December, 2022

Shanghai, the world’s largest container port, is isolating international freight shipping to prevent disruption to global exports as a wave of COVID sweeps through China.

According to a representative of the port of Shanghai, “the facilities were operating normally.” The big difference is that now the ports operate in an economic environment that has radically changed, as global demand has weakened considerably, which has helped ease trade congestion.

However, the situation could worsen as the virus begins to intensify around Chinese New Year next month, according to logistics specialist Dimerco Express.
