Global Economy: Trade is weak showing that China is in trouble.

19 June, 2023

New trade data from China suggests that the world’s second-largest economy is struggling to recover. In May, there were signs of weakening in China’s economic recovery, clouding the outlook for the rest of the year and fueling calls for more central bank stimulus.

This weakening is shown in exports and imports, since these have contracted with respect to May of the previous year, indicating that there is a moderate internal and world demand. Being that Germany is its strongest partner economically in the European zone, it went into recession this past winter, there has been a drop in orders placed with manufacturers.

On the other hand, it is expected that there is a commercial opportunity for China, this being Kazakhstan, due to the financial and economic sanctions that have marginalized Russia due to the war. Kazakhstan and Russia have been strong trading partners since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Now that Russia is sanctioned and China has made great strides in the Asia region, this is an economic opportunity to give China a small boost to its recovery.

The global economic outlook is in a precarious situation and is expected to head towards a substantial slowdown in economic growth, this due to increases in interest rates that affect business activities in low-income countries, according to the Bank. World.
